Two Men Sentenced To 10 Years For Sexually Assaulting 16-year-old Boy In Lagos

Two men, Chukwuka Odinaka and Ikechukwu Eze, were each given ten years in prison by Lagos Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court Judge Rahman Oshodi for sexually abusing a kid.
The judge found them guilty of two counts of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a sixteen-year-old kid by penetrating his anus with their penis.
The state government had sued them, alleging that both defendants had penetrated the 16-year-old boy’s anus with their p3nis at some point in 2020.
On November 23, 2022, the defendants were first charged with sexual assault by penetration, and they entered a not guilty plea.
The victim’s brother and guardian, Jonathan Inalegwu Ounche (PW1), the prosecution witness, gave important testimony during the trial and described how he helped apprehend the two offenders he had previously named.
Additionally, he informed the court that the victim was referred to the Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF) for a medical assessment following the complaint of the alleged offense.
Additionally, Okoi Oluchi (PW2), a nurse at WARIF and the second witness, presented the medical report that Dr. Makanjuola had completed (exhibits A to A7).
Oluchi informed the court that the medical evaluation found numerous signs of forced anal penetration, such as severe bruising and abrasions on the claimed victim’s anus.
Tolulope Banjo, the defendants’ attorney, asked the prosecution for a plea deal after the defendants failed to provide any proof to disprove the accusation.
They reached a plea and sentencing deal, which required the charge to be changed to sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.
Chukwuka and Ikechukwu entered a guilty plea after being handed the new charge.
Consequently, Justice Oshodi found the defendants guilty and sentenced them to ten years in prison each.
The judge declared,
I hereby find both defendants, Chukwuka Odinaka and Ikechukwu Eze, guilty and convict them on both counts as charged in the amended Information, having satisfied myself that the defendant’s guilty plea was voluntary, informed, and unequivocal.
They received a sentence of seven years in prison for the first offense of indecent treatment of a child, which is against section 135 of the Criminal Law. Additionally, they were sentenced to three years in jail on count two, which deals with sexual assault in violation of section 263 of the Criminal Law.
The court mandated that their names be listed as S3x offenders and that both sentences run concurrently.
