Ekiti Man, 30, In Court For Killing Nonagenarian

A 30-year-old man, Oke Kehinde, popularly known as Egere, was on Monday arraigned before an Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti for armed robbery and murder.

He was alleged to have killed a 92-year-old man, Ayorinde Ayeni, in addition to participating in robbery.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence within the Emure-Ekiti Magisterial District on January 1, 2020.

Leramo said,

The defendant was suspected to have committed the offence of armed robbery and subsequently murdered 92-year-old Ayorinde Ayeni.

The defendant was arrested at Emure-Ekiti on May 31, 2020, with exhibits found on him and he made confessional statements to the police.

The defendant was also found in possession of offensive weapons.

The offences contravene sections 420 (2) and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court to adjourn the case to allow him to duplicate the case file and send it to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case till July 30, 2020, for mention.
