Nigerian gospel singer, Tope Alabi, has responded to numerous criticism over her adoption of “worldly dance steps” in a viral video shared on social media.

Some of her social media critics allege that the gospel singer has deviated from her roots.

A Facebook user named Adeniji Aderogba wrote:

This is Evangelist Tope Alabi oo.. What is this world turns to for God sake. The Tope Alabi I knew 10 years ago is totally different from this one.
Hmmmm Ogun Esu gbe ‘bon o!

However, in an interview on TVC’s “Wakeup Nigeria”, while reacting to the video, Alabi affirmed that those dance steps were necessary at that time. According to her, she was dancing at her father’s funeral and people with “spiritual eyes” would grasp its meaning.
