Ganduje Appeals To FG To Ease Lockdown In Kano

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Kano State Governor

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to the Federal Government to relax the 14-day total lockdown imposed on the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday, April 27th, 2020 ordered a total lockdown in the state as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus disease.

Buhari had also announced the deployment of a team of health experts to address the rising cases of “unusual deaths” in the state.

Ganduje had immediately hailed the President’s decision, saying his increased focus on Kano would help the state tackle the pandemic.

But speaking on Thursday at the Government House during the inauguration of a panel to support the Kano State Task Force Technical Committee, the governor highlighted that it was important to relax the lockdown so as to ease the hardship on residents of the state.

We would engage the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.

We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. We would love the federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state,

Ganduje said, according to TheCable.

Recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Thursday, April 30th, 2020, said that there were 80 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Kano State, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 219, with five fatalities and zero recovery.

The NCDC also announced that the total coronavirus cases in the country neared 2000 while 319 recoveries and 58 deaths have been reported.
