Insecurity: Christian Elders Finger Foreign Nations

Insecurity in Nigeria

The National Christian Elders Forum says it has knowledge that the country’s insecurity has its root in foreign nations, stressing that it requires the international community’s intervention to resolve it. The forum hoped that Europe would be free and willing to intervene, following Britain’s exit from the European Union. It stated that all lovers of democracy and western way of life should explore this opportunity.

This statement was contained in a communique after the forum’s meeting, signed by its Chairman, Solomon Asemota. The forum appealed to General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo to assist Nigeria overcome the insecurity.

The statement urged the trio,

as the most prominent Christian leaders in the country’s military history, to put aside personal differences and jointly intervene on the current security challenges.

The forum said the insecurity in Nigeria became worse owing to the fact that Christians had not properly addressed the issue in recent years.

It called on the indigenous tribes’ traditional rulers to put hands together and defend their people and ancestral lands, saying

The real owners of Nigeria are the indigenous ethnic nationalities represented by the traditional rulers and leaders. The traditional rulers of the indigenous tribes of the north and the south should unite to ward off Boko Haram.
