Lagos Explosion Not Caused By Pipeline Vandals – NEMA

Pipeline explosion rocks Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has clarified that the explosion which happened at Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State on Sunday, March 15th, 2020 was not caused by a disruption of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s oil pipeline.

NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office Acting Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, clarified this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Farinloye noted contrary to information earlier circulated on social media, the explosion which happened at about 9:00 a.m. was unconnected to pipeline vandalism.

From the information given by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, who are currently on the ground, the implosion is not connected to pipeline but might have occurred in a factory located in the Abule Ado area.

Emergency responders are on the ground while others are still on their way to the scene. The situation is under control and we hope to get more information soon to ascertain its cause,

he said.

Farinloye said the NNPC, as a precautionary measure, shut down its pipeline passing through the axis, after the oil company was notified of the explosion.

Also he confirmed that various buildings were damaged by the explosion, which was heard many kilometers away in many parts of Lagos State, including Amuwo Odofin, Ijegun, Aguda, Ijesha and Agege.
