The Government of Kano State led by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has made an announcement that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has been sacked.

BREAKING NEWS; EMIR SANUSI DETHRONED:

The Kano State Executive Council has unanimously approved the dethronement of the Emir of Kamo Mallam Muhammad Sanusi Ii at a special sitting held today by the council.

Sanusi ascended the throne in 2014, after his granduncle, Ado Bayero, died. His grandfather, Muhammadu Sanusi I, reigned from 1953 until he was deposed by Premier Ahmadu Bello in 1963. His father, Aminu Sanusi, was Ciroma of Kano.

Before he ascended to the throne, Sanusi was an economist and banker. From 2009 to 2014, he served as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, until President Goodluck Jonathan suspended him for raising the alarm on the $20bn alleged to be missing.

Flavision gathered that the emir had been embroiled in an intense war with the Kano State Governor since last year amid allegations that he supported the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

There has been an investigation against the monarch for alleged corruption, while the government split his emirate into five to drastically minimise his influence.
