Newcastle consider swoop for Robert’s son

Newcastle are considering a summer swoop for former talisman Laurent Robert’s son – according to the Daily Mail.

Thomas Robert is now a free agent after the expiration of his final contract at Montpellier, who failed to tie the 19-year-old forward down to a fresh three-year deal.

Newcastle could submit an offer for the teenager in the coming weeks, but may face competition from Ligue 1 duo Nice and Rennes.

Sarri: Pjanic will be happy with Barca move

Maurizio Sarri has declared Miralem Pjanic “will be happy” to seal a move to Barcelona, while backing the midfielder to remain focused during his remaining time at Juventus.

Barca confirmed on Monday that Arthur will join Juve in a deal potentially worth €72 million (£66m/$81m) at the end of the season, and Pjanic is expected to go the other way.

Sarri had expressed a desire to see Pjanic remain with the Bianconeri beyond the end of the season. However, when speaking to the media shortly before the Arthur deal was confirmed, he emphasised savouring the Bosnia-Herzegovina international’s talents while he is still with his club.

Arsenal target Wolfsburg striker Weghorst

Wolfsburg centre-forward Wout Weghorst is the subject of interest from Arsenal – according to Bild.

The 27-year-old is likely to be available for around €35 million (£32m/$39m) when the transfer window reopens, and the Gunners are ready to pounce for his signature.

Newcastle have also been linked with Weghorst, who has scored 16 Bundesliga goals for Wolfsburg this season.

Chelsea ready to submit offer for Angel Gomes

Chelsea are planning to submit an offer for Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes – according to The Independent.

The Blues are prepared to present the 19-year-old with a contract at Stamford Bridge when he drops into the free agency pool at the end of the month.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Gomes has not committed to extending his stay at Old Trafford.

Las Vegas appoints Yallop as Wynalda’s replacement

The Las Vegas Lights have confirmed that former Chicago Fire head coach Frank Yallop will replace Eric Wynalda as head coach.

Wynalda was fired by the club on June 18 with the USL still suspended due to the coronavirus.

The veteran shot-stopper made just three appearances for the Clarets this season and has struggled for regular game time since leaving the Etihad in 2016 following the arrival of Pep Guardiola.

Since departing City, Hart played briefly for Torino and West Ham before moving to Burnley, but failed to cement his place in goal at all three.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has held a meeting with Quique Setien at the Barcelona manager’s home, reports RAC.

Bartomeu was joined by vice-president, Javier Bordas, and director of football Eric Abidal in the meeting, which was used to discuss the current state of the team.

The news comes amid reports that Barca’s players are unhappy with Setien as well as the decision to sell Arthur.

Juventus chasing Valencia’s Torres

The Spaniard is in high demand.

Juventus are in the market for another big-money signing as the Italian side are chasing Valencia’s Ferran Torres, according to ESPN.

Torres has attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester United this season as he’s shined in La Liga for Valencia.

Juve and Valencia have already started negotiating a deal for Torres, who has represented Spain up to the Under-21 level.

Atlanta makes series of moves ahead of MLS return

Atlanta United have announced two roster moves ahead of the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando.

The club announced on Monday that Jon Gallagher has returned to the club following being on loan with Aberdeen, with the defender having made 33 appearances during that spell.

Meanwhile, Manuel Castro’s loan from Club Estudiantes de La Plata has been extended through the end of the 2020 season.

RB Leipzig identify Werner replacement

RB Leipzig have identified Hwang Hee-chan as Timo Werner’s replacement, reports Sky Sports.

The RB Salzburg star scored 16 goals in 38 games for the Austrian side this season, after having reached double-digits in each of the two prior campaigns.

Liverpool and Wolves have also been linked with a move for the South Korean attacker.

Southampton enter race for Arsenal’s Balogun

Southampton have entered the race for Arsenal starlet, Folarin Balogun, reports the Daily Mail.

Balogun is set to leave Arsenal this summer after turning down a performance-based contract offers from the Gunners.

AC Milan and Brentford are also among those pushing to sign the talented teenager.

McClaren linked with Dundee job

Steve McClaren looks likely to take over at Dundee, reports the Evening Standard.

McClaren has met with sporting director Tony Asghar for an interview and the discussions are said to have gone “extremely well”.

Malky Mackay is also said to be among the candidates for the job.

USMNT’s Carter-Vickers could remain with Luton

Luton Town are in negotiations with Tottenham to keep hold of Cameron Carter-Vickers, the club confirmed.

The USMNT defender is one of a number of players the club is looking to keep hold of, with Luton negotiating with the parent clubs of fellow loanees Luke Bolton, James Bree and Izzy Brown.

Luton currently sit 23rd in the Championship.
