Ethiopian Orthodox Church

The lifeless bodies of seven teenagers were found in a church in the eastern Oromia region of Ethiopia, police officials said on Monday, April 20th, 2020.

The teenagers were inside a room at the St Joseph Church which housed a generator,

spokesman for the East Shewa Zone police station, Commander Aschalew Alemu, told the state news agency, ENA.

Alemu said corpses of six males and one female under the age of twenty (20) were discovered at about 3:00 a.m (00:00 GMT) on Sunday, April 19th, 2020 just as the nation was about to commence Easter celebration.

Ethiopia, which has the largest population of Orthodox Christians outside Europe, celebrated Easter on April 19th.

We are now investigating if suffocation from the generator is the cause of the death,

the police spokesman said, adding that eleven (11) people had been taken into custody, in connection with the deaths.

It is not yet known how the teenagers got inside the church.
