Uber Driver Begged For Her Life, Talked Of Four Children Before She Was Fatally Shot By Passenger

Christi Spicuzza

An Uber driver talked of her four children as she begged the customer in her backseat not to kill her.

Christi Spicuzza was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head on February 12 in a wooded area in Monroeville, according to the Allegheny County Police Department. Just days earlier, she picked up 22-year-old Calvin Crew in Penn Hills around 9:15 p.m. Authorities said he used his girlfriend’s phone to order a ride the night of Feb. 10.

About 10 minutes into the ride, Crew allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at his Uber driver in what authorities believe was a bid to rob her. Their exchange was captured by dashcam video, the transcript of which was obtained by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. When she reached back and felt the gun, Spicuzza uttered,

You’ve got to be kidding me.

Crew allegedly told her to “keep driving” as she continued to plead for her life and tell him about her family.

I got a family, too, now drive,

he said.

Now drive.

I’m begging you, I have four kids,

she responded.

Crew on several occasions also ordered Spicuzza to

finish the trip.

The video ends with Crew reaching for the dashcam.

Do what I say, and everything will be all right,

he says before it goes dark.

Crew was arrested on Thursday and was charged with criminal homicide, robbery and tampering with evidence. Authorities discovered the dashcam not far from where the suspect was supposed to be dropped off.

He was being held without bail in the Allegheny County Jail on Saturday awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 25.
